back to the start

aside from being one of the first pictures i shot with a dslr, this bridge is one of the first things i shot this year, and one of the first things i edited tonight after neglecting January's photos in January. But seriously, is there a better time than February to edit pictures taken in January? I don't think so.

is this the future

right now i would say that unicycling is a niche of the larger cycling community, but it's apparently gaining ground, at least in austin. i wonder if some day we'll all be riding them. they DO require less resources to manufacture, and much less maintenance.

Undeserving

Daniel's about the best guy around, and always seems to get the short end of the stick. His story is inspiring, and not just to myself. He's been told that by many, and I feel that the world would be a better place if more people got to hear it. Still, this is not the place for that story. I'll be working on a website, blog, and documentary centered around his struggle, his love and his life, but in the mean time, this picture will have to suffice.

My own Bettie Page

I've been distracted with editing for the past several weeks, and so this text entry field feels kinda awkward right now. Blogging aside however, this shoot turned out better than planned. I might add that recreating bettie page was my model's decision, so I have to give thanks where it's due, to Ash,  for really getting in the character.

promoting jan ferrari

This image is a collage of two images drawn by Jan Ferrai, together with some of my editing and several photoshop layers. it's not finished so any feedback makes my life better. actually, i think the world would be a better place if every viewer would just comment, but that's dreamin'.

a couple new portraits

after a month of celebratory events and other cheerful little photo ops, i had started to forget how great it is to just have a camera in my hand all day. Constantly looking for a shot, drenched in awareness and ready. These portraits were taken with my 24-105, also something i had forgotten, as I've been using prime pentax lenses almost constantly since I picked up an adapter back in November.
It's a simple pleasure to be reminded of things which once brought joy into life, and to be taking pictures at the same time?

justified rage

Pinatas were hung and sticks were flung in celebration of the inauguration. here a likeness of Geroge W. Bush was readied for bashing. I'm all for expressing contempt for failed policies through art, but I think some people on campus could have been more impressed.

what do you think, dear reader?

the trampoline concept is one of several ideas i'm working with for the Sentient Rex branding campaign, with this particular layout being a potential business card back

experimenting with close-up lenses

got some old Aetna 49mm close up lenses yeaterday, a full set actually (#1, #2, and #3). Although I seem to have gotten the 2 and 3 stuck permanently together :( , I also got some really cool effects out of my adapted m42 pentax 50mm f/1.4 lens.

Semester in Photos

Six images that ran in the Daily Texan this semester were selected as a recap. I was happy to see one of mine (of the Hives show) in the mix.
I'll be posting my own favorites from the semester soon.

Veteran's Day Photos

Check out this story and the photo gallery the daily texan ran on wednesday. Only pics 5&6 on the gallery are mine, but all of them are worth checking out.

I'll get this up on flickr, but want to play with the curves in a little different way than my editor decided to take it.

moroccan ships

Edited a bit this weekend, including a few summer vacation pictures, so here are the first of the Moroccan photos, with plenty more left to edit and post. This one was taken on the docks in the port city of Essaouira. The boats were mostly uninteresting so these two matching rigs really caught my eye. Still, I should have gotten back a few more feet to capture the full masses of both ships.
These docks, and the fish market that went with them was the best part of the whole trip.

even good technology fails.

These are the two frames taken before and after shutter actuation # 15,430, the frame which, aside from the usual 12 bit RAW file being written, the camera also elicited a most curious crunching sound.

cannon accepted my claim and I should have my camera back some time next week, but in the mean time, I've had tons of time to work on updating the site (I never realized how much time I actually spend shooting).
